WFTDA
WFTDA (pronounced alternately as “wuf-da”, W-F-T-D-A or “wuf-ta-da”) refers to the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. According to the official WFTDA website, wftda.com:
“WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women’s flat track roller derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues.
The governing philosophy of the WFTDA is ‘by the skaters, for the skaters.’ Female skaters are primary owners, managers, and/or operators of each member league and of the association. Operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons, and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues.”
There are now over 70 member leagues in WFTDA, divided into four geographic regions. The Denver Roller Dolls joined WFTDA in September 2007 and are members of the West Region. WFTDA publishes quarterly rankings for each region, on the basis of sanctioned games played between teams from different WFTDA-member leagues.
