Shotgun Betties Take the League Championship
ShareThe final game of the season saw the newly reformed Shotgun Betties take on the 2008 champions the Bad Apples to determine the league champions.
Many members of the Mile High Club travel team sat out the bout in anticipation of their trip to Nationals next month, and some new faces took the track for the first time ever in the final home game of the 2009 season. Members of the third home team, the Green Barrettes, helped fill out both rosters in an exciting home team battle.
Playing for the Shotgun Betties: Alex Terminateu, Bella Jerrent, Bones Patrol, Berlin Brawl, Double Easy, Eva Doom, LynnSane, Moira Lee Devoid, Shannon Ball, Dirty Pixel (debut bout), Bidi Bidi Bomb Bomb (debut bout), Dharma Gedden, Elle Yeah, Mic Shovin’, Minimum Rage.
Playing for the Bad Apples: Anne Slam, Bijou Blacnbleu, Deadly Long Legs, Grannyy Apple, Kimmy Kimmy Bang Bang, Lil’ Bit Disturbed (debut bout), Murderface Maully, Primal Rage, Reapercussion, Sister Mary Superego, Bea Ware, Jersey Trouble, Fawn Stalking, Kendra Blood.
The lead changed several times between the two teams most of the first half, with often only a point or two separating the rivals. Then an impressive 24-point jam by recent SVRG transfer Double Easy helped the Shotgun Betties take command of the bout, and the Bad Apples were never able to catch up. The final score was 130 Shotgun Betties, 109 Bad Apples.
The league bid farewell to two players who will be retiring this year: Jersey Trouble (a league founder) of the Bad Apples, and Bella Jerrent of the Shotgun Betties. The event also featured a men’s derby bout between Baltimore’s Harm City Homicide and Tucson’s Dry Heat Militia.
