Denver Roller Dolls August 21st Double Header Preview.

1STBANK Center, Broomfield, CO - Saturday August 21, 2010 - Denver’s Mile High Club, officially #3 in the West Region, will battle Madison’s Dairyland Dolls, #3 in the North Central Region, for a rematch. The two teams first met in 2008 in Wisconsin, and there Madison took a 159 to 74 win. The Madison team had the advantage of more experience, as they had competed in the 2006 Dust Devil, the first national flat-track tournament. Last year Denver competed in their first national championship, the Declaration of Derby, and placed 3rd in the nation behind the still-undefeated Oly Rollers and sport founders Texas.

In the last two months, both teams have played the #3 team in the East Region, Boston. Madison fell to Boston 110-89 and Denver took a 203-100 win. The result of this bout will not affect Regional seeding or tournament brackets as those have already been determined. However, this is the last bout for both teams before Regional playoffs begin. If both teams finish in the top three of their respective regions, they may see each other again at the WFTDA Championship in November in Chicago.

There will be sibling rivalry in the air as Denver rookie Alaine Olthafer competes against her two older sisters Darling Nikki and Goldie Mean of Madison. Denver’s roster has been fairly consistent since last year with the skillful and speedy additions of Andrea Hill and Alaine Olthafer. Denver had been undefeated since the 2009 National tournament until a tough loss to #2 in the East region Philly Rollergirls. Madison recently snapped a 9-game losing streak by defeating Houston by 100 points.  Madison’s roster is missing 2009 DNN Reader’s Poll “Rookie of theYear” runner-up Juke Boxxx, who was part of the regular Madison jammer rotation. Madison’s roster still features Darling Nikki and Jewels of DeNile as part of the regular jammer rotation, with longtime vet Mouse thrown in there when needed. Madison’s roster also features 2010 transfer Vicious Van GoGo, whose former team (Texas) played against Denver in May and was upset 130-112.

Denver’s B-team, Bruising Altitude, will also be facing a familiar rival as they take on the Microbruisers of FoCo Girls Gone Derby, of Fort Collins, Colorado. Bruising Altitude and the Fort Collins all-star team have met twice before: April 2009 and September 2009. Both times Bruising Altitude beat Fort Collins by fair margins. At that time the Fort Collins all-star team was called the “Kung Fu Donnas” but was renamed this year to the “Microbruisers”. Both Bruising Altitude and Fort Collins’ rosters have changed significantly, Bruising Altitude’s by nature of being a JV all-star team with a competitive selection process and Fort Collins’ due to a recent league split. Fort Collins played Denver’s all-star team, the Mile High Club, earlier this year and lost 391-14. Most notably, Fort Collins’ roster is missing Finkzilla and Urrk’n Jerk’n As Booty Block Ya, the only point-scoring skaters in their game against the Mile High Club. Bruising Altitude remains undefeated since their inception at the beginning of 2009. Bruising Altitude has most recently played the Silicon Valley Rollergirls B-team, the KillaBytes, in June, and the O-Town Derby Dames of Ogden, Utah, in May, winning both bouts by large margins. Bruising Altitude’s roster will feature two 2010 Denver rookies in their first bout ever: Paxa Punch and Gator Dunn. Co-captain The Terrible Suz is also a 2010 rookie, but this will be her second bout.
