Bout Recap: Mile High Club vs. Fort Collins Microbruisers

Broomfield, CO – At the 1STBANK Center, the Denver Roller Dolls' all-star travel team, the Mile High Club (MHC) hosted neighboring CO team, the FoCo Girls Gone Derby Microbruisers of Fort Collins for a closed bout and a lopsided 391-14 win.

The Mile High Club started their 2010 season where they had left off: smothering defense, precise pack control and an array of talented jammers. The Mile High Club held FoCo scoreless until jam 13 where Monica Carson of the Mile High Club took a 10-2 win over Finkzilla of the FoCo Microbruisers in a power jam situation which favored FoCo. MHC only gave up lead jammer three times in the first period and only four times in the second period. Heather Juska scored a devastating 107 points in the first period alone. The first period ended 194-2, MHC.

For the second period, the less-experienced Fort Collins team came out fighting and tripled their score within in the first few jams. Unfortunately, FoCo never capitalized on the few opportunities they received. MHC had both Teresa Rusk and Heather Juska hit 35 point jams in the second period. Both teams skated fairly free of penalty trouble. MHC captain and defensive powerhouse Tracy Akers had zero minor penalties and was a constant threat to the FoCo jammers. MHC’s defense was definitely well-orchestrated, often moving as one cohesive unit and controlling the pack speed. The final score was MHC 391 to FOCO 14.—Geisha X
