Projects
these dolls make time for a good cause
The Denver Roller Dolls’ commitment to community service has
been around as long as the organization itself. Here are some
of the service activities dolls are participating in.
PAST PROJECTS 2007
New Voters Project
- During our
Oct 26th bout, the Denver Roller Dolls partnered
with the New Voters Project to raise awareness of the need to
register to vote and empower young voters to get their voices
heard. For more information about the many opportunities available
to you voters, go to www.newvotersproject.org.
Race
for the Cure - On October 7th, our team
participated in the Race with the hopes of raising as much money
as possible to provide for research programs in our area.
Denver Marathon - Denver Roller
Dolls' Peekaboo Screech participated in the Denver Marathon's Celebrity
Run to help raise money for Safehouse Denver.
Project Angel Heart - DRD delivered
meals on behalf of Project Angel Heart to approximately 25 people
in the Denver area. Dolls also took home and decorated 100 bags that
will be used for delivering future meals. Also, at our debut bout,
Pabst Blue Ribbon offered 50 cents for each PBR sold at our after
party generating an additional $200 donation to Project Angel Heart.
PAST ACTIVITIES
Women's Bean Project - DRD assisted the Women's Bean Project by
staffing their booth at Denver's annual Gaylord Festival.
Girls Inc. - The Dolls scheduled a month long series of Friday activities
including team bonding, indoor skating, and teaching the basics of
roller derby with the final Friday ending in an all night skate party
at our Brighton rink, The Wagon Wheel.
The Gathering Place - The Denver Roller Dolls put together a highly
successful feminine hygiene drive resulting in 71 packages of pads
(totaling 1020 pads) and 26 packages of tampons (that's 716 tampons!!!).
A portion of our proceeds from our debut fundraiser went to The Gathering
Place, and with a matching contribution from the host, The Three
Kings Tavern, we donated $1,000 to the organization.
Habitat for Humanity - Some Dolls don't mind getting
their hands dirty. That's how they ended up on the job assisting
with some finishing touches on a Denver Metro Habitat for Humanity
home. A handful of Roller Dolls stuffed their frozen fingers into
some work gloves and got down to business.
Bonfils Blood Center - The Denver Roller Dolls encourage
you to donate blood. DRD tracks our skater and fan donations
with Bonfils using group #6265. Contact Bonfils for locations and
hours: bonfils.org
