Unaffiliated
At any given time, a skater may not be affiliated with a specific team. This may be because she is in training to pass her skills test (indeed, a skater must be with the league for several months before she is even eligible to take the test), coming back from injury, or have recently transferred from another league. But these bouters-in-training are active members of the league without whom the league could not function. The business of roller derby is incredibly demanding, and these girls rise to the occasion. They promote the league through participating in events, chairing the board of directors and committees, practicing, taking and giving hard hits.
